NFL: Quarterback Russell Wilson will be missing Seattle Seahawks after surgery for weeks

Russell Wilson will probably miss the Seattle Seahawks up to two months. The quarterback was already operated on Friday to repair a tendon tear in the middle finger of the right hand.

Wilson had approached the injury in the Thursday Night Game against the Los Angeles Rams and consulted on Friday a hand specialist in Los Angeles. Wilson should start with the rehab measures at the weekend. In addition, the Seahawks stated that they strongly assume that he will return later this season.

Wilson posted after the surgery a photo of itself with the message: Lion Heart (too German: Löwenherz ). For him it is the first major injury in the NFL. Since his rookie season 2012, Wilson had not missed a single start and came to a start series of 149 games that was the longest active in the league. Only Peyton Manning had put a longer start series at the start of his career and graduated from 1998 to 2010 208 games in series for the Indianapolis Colts, before a heavy neck injury had cost the complete season 2011 season. Then he moved to the Denver Broncos.

On Friday, Head Coach Pete Carroll did not want to speculate about the severity of the injury Wilson, but gave to understand at a press conference: Something is not true in the finger of quarterback. We now have to figure out how hard the injury is and look like the next steps, Carroll added.

The Seahawks will therefore set the downtime in the coming weeks - the downtime after several media reports to four to eight weeks - on Backup Geno Smith, who already jumped on Thursday for Wilson.

Smith, who has been under contract since 2020 at the Seahawks, was once a two-round chip of the New York Jets 2013 and was directly starter of the team. After two years, however, he lost the post and since then was only backup for Green Green, the Giants and Chargers. He completed his last start in 2017 for the Giants.
