In World of Warcraft, the dragon swarmime a.k.a represents "Dragon flights" (DragonFlight) the types of dragons on Azeroth. In the early history, many dragon swarms existed in all colors of the rainbow, but there were only five swarms that dominated their brothers. These were five swarms that selected the Titanic Guards to guard the underlying world. The leaders of each group were called the dragon aspects, the big aspects or simply the aspects. The five big dragon swarms are characterized by their coloring: black, blue, bronze, green and red.
There are also smaller dragon swarms beyond the five main types that are artificial or otherwise unnatural. Since the fall of the black dragon aspect, the dragon swarms, including the former aspects and guardian of life, Alexstrasza, apparently most of their power lost, along with their ability to further reproduce.
The dragon islands, the scene of the upcoming extension, are a lush and original place full of elemental magic and the life energies of Azeroths. She once served as a broodland of the dragon swarms and as the center of her kingdom when Azeroth was still young. During the large division, the country was highlighted by much of the magic and the dragons were forced to leave their homeland to the care of the Titanic Guards, which used the beacon of Tyrhold to hide the islands in front of all outsiders. When a time would come in which the elementary energy revives and the dragons can come home, the guards will ignite the beacon and reveal the islands of the world.

After the Chairman in Wow Shadowland failed to deprive the world sensor Azeroth to carry out his dark plans the life elixir, this is in a regeneration process, which also renewed the "original forces" on the dragon islands. The beacon of Tyrhold was ignited again and the dragons returned to the islands.
